Forest Project

These are the 2 comps I chose.
The night forest is meant to feel Creepy and Eerie!
For this project, I'm going to start with paying more attention to the Night scene before moving onto the day one.

This day forest, meant to feel "Wondrous and blissful".

Forest Project Beginning

I first started with a bunch of thumbnails that I did traditionally, then moved on and made more digitally. It was pretty fun to go straight

Then I moved on to working on comps. These are my first pass comps

Sketchbook #11

Sooo... This one i realized I wasted too much time in the beginning using a small brush. So I decided with 20 mins left to go back to the fatty size brush to try and save it... it helped a bit but i learned the importance of BIG SHAPES first!! YAY! :)

Sketchbook Painting #5

This one I also used a whole bunch of brushes.

Here's the photo!

In the first 5 minutes I started with a quick B/W study

Then I decided to go right into the painting. I was trying to be as bold as possible and use as many brushes as I could.

This one I tried using different brushes every 5-7 minutes.

Here's the photo:

First I did a super quick B/W version like in the demo

Then tried doing what Owen did in class with a super quick color block in...

Sketchbook Painting #3

So I decided to try something different. In my last digital paintings I realized I spent a lot of time finding the right color/value in photoshop. I thought to choose my colors as if I were painting and mix them like it's a pallet. I think it helped because I was able to focus on painting more. I'm not totally sure if that's the right method... or even the fastest, but it's fun experimenting.

Here's the image:

Then I mixed a rough idea of the colors I would use: (and used that area to also test out brushes)

And here's my painting! I feel like I learned a lot from this one.
